Life eventsOne of the most important things we should be doing as Christians is welcoming others into our faith. In our Draycote Group we pride ourselves on being a welcoming community. When we are welcoming to others, we are welcoming Christ into our lives. This speaks of the whole ministry of hospitality, which we as Christians need to practice. To be welcoming means that we should be completely open to a visitor – when we receive a visitor in our homes – we try to make a special effort – to make them feel valued. We aim to do this for all the guests coming into our churches – for couples coming about their marriage, for babies being baptised and for families and friends coming to mourn the loss of a loved one. Weddings, baptisms and funerals are called “occasional offices” in the church registers, and are a very important part of the churches ministry, especially here in our village churches where there is a strong sense of community and friends and neighbours like to come and support families in times of both celebration and sadness.
Please remember that, even if you are not a regular church attender, the vicar will be happy to meet you to discuss weddings or baptisms. A naming service can be held for those who don’t feel able to make the vows necessary for a baptism. Baptisms can of course take place at any age, and normally are held as part of the monthly family service so that the child (or adult) can be welcomed into God’s family by the congregation. There has been an increase in demand for church weddings over the last few years. The change in qualification rules in 2009 make it possible for a much wider range of people to marry in churches with which they have a genuine connection. You can find details here.
A meeting of all those to be married is to be held on 11th February 2012. click here for more details
The Church of England weddings website has plenty of information on marrying in church including a wedding ceremony planner.
